3 Simple Activities To Create More Time For You, Your Business, and Your Family

I’m sure you are finding that time is going faster too.  I start Monday with a long To-Do list and then all of a sudden, it’s Friday.  Sometimes with the same To-Do list left.

Finding the time to do all the important things can be quite challenging with work, looking after family, exercising, trying to build your business, find new clients, marketing to new and existing ones, pay bills, and everything else that goes into keep afloat – that’s without even taking time to look after yourself.

I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

Well, here are 3 simple activities to create more time for you, your business, and your family.  Imagine having just a little more time for the important things in your life.

The first is to get professional help.  If you’re anything like me, you often think it’s faster if you do it yourself, rather than trying to explain it to someone, then reviewing it, then fixing it up…..

I recently was trying to update a database and wanted to split names into first name and last name, and it was taking me forever to cut and paste, not to mention the fatigue on my mouse hand.  It had taken me 3 hours and I was only 10% through the spreadsheet.

I decided to give it to an Excel specialist who I had used through Upwork a little while back.  What a fantastic decision that was.  He had the spreadsheet completed in 5 minutes, and probably saved me 2 days worth of work.

So, my point is – why waste your time trying to do something when there is a person out there who is more specialised and can do it significantly faster than you, who is very happy to do whatever work you want to offload.  I can guarantee you can find someone who will do it cheaper than your hourly rate.

What can you offload to a professional?  There are plenty of sites you can go to get work done, such as Upwork, Freelancer, Fiverr, and even apps like Airtasker etc.  The money you spend is so worth the time you free up.

The next activity is to question everything.  What are you doing during the day that you don’t really need to do?  Is your next activity going to bring you closer to your goals, or just waste time?

I had a coaching client recently that was convinced that they had to watch a particular show on tv, and when I discussed this further with them, they actually “had” to watch quite a number of tv shows each night.  Once we had a conversation about the value those shows brought to them, it was easy to then be more productive doing something else rather than watching tv – such as reading, doing online courses, walking.  The list goes on.

Are there things in your day that you could not do that could free up some time?  Are there activities that take your away from your goals (whatever they may be)?

Be aware before you start a task of the value it is bringing to you and question everything.

The final quick activity, is to simply breathe.  Take five long slow deep breaths right now.  Deep breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system, slowing down your heart rate, lowering your blood pressure, and generally making you feel relaxed.

When you are in a calm state, your clarity and awareness heightens which allows you to be more productive.  If you are more productive, get things done quicker, then you will have more time for you.

It is so important to look after yourself.  We, has allied health professionals, look after everybody else, it’s time to prioritise YOU.  Find the time to pamper yourself, spend quality time with loved ones, or simply get outside and go for a walk.
